Warrick County Opens Cooling Centers During Extreme Heat

Dangerous heat continues to move into the Tri-State, and Warrick County Emergency Management has announced cooling center locations for Warrick County residents who need a safe place to cool off.

This comes as the National Weather Service forecasts Major to Extreme HeatRisk across the area. Extreme heat poses significant health risks, not just to those who may be sensitive to heat, but even for those who are not normally affected by hot weather.

Warrick County Cooling Center Locations

Newburgh Senior Center

• 529 Jefferson Street, Newburgh
• Open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Impact Ministries

• 509 E. Walnut Street, Boonville
• Open 24 hours

Lynville Community Center

• 316 IN-68, Lynville
• Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Pets are welcome, but must be in a cage or secured.

Extreme Heat Can Become Dangerous Quickly

Cooling centers can be especially important for older adults, young children, people with health conditions, outdoor workers, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

During dangerous heat, residents are encouraged to drink water, limit time outdoors, avoid strenuous activity during peak heat, and check on neighbors or family members who may need help staying cool.

Pets Need Heat Protection Too

The Lynville Community Center is allowing pets, but animals must be caged or secured.
