Nashville Zoo is Fighting a Proposed Data Center Next Door
One of Tennessee's most popular attractions is asking the public for help after learning that a proposed data center could be built on property adjacent to the zoo.
The Nashville Zoo has launched a petition campaign urging community members to oppose the project, arguing that too many questions remain unanswered about how the facility could impact animals, visitors, staff, and nearby natural resources.
According to zoo officials, the proposed development would include a 69,000-square-foot data center on land neighboring the zoo.

Zoo Leaders Say Questions Remain
In a statement shared with supporters, Nashville Zoo officials said they are concerned that no environmental studies or impact assessments have been conducted to evaluate potential effects on the zoo or surrounding community.
The zoo says it has not seen evidence addressing how the project could affect animal habitats, visitor experiences, or local resources.
Officials argue that those questions should be answered before any construction moves forward.

Concerns Over Water and Energy Use
One of the zoo's primary concerns involves the significant resources often required to operate data centers.
Modern data centers can consume large amounts of electricity and water to power and cool equipment. Leaders with the zoo in Nashville say they are worried about the potential impact on local infrastructure and natural resources if adequate studies are not completed before development begins.
The zoo also expressed concerns about potential impacts on nearby watersheds and the area's long-term sustainability.
Protecting More Than 3,000 Animals
The Nashville Zoo currently cares for more than 3,000 animals and welcomes approximately 1.4 million visitors each year.
Zoo officials say their opposition to the project is rooted in protecting the animals under their care, preserving habitats, and ensuring the long-term health of the surrounding environment.
As a result, the organization is encouraging supporters to sign a petition opposing the proposed data center. You can find that petition here.
What's Next?
At this stage, the zoo is focused on raising awareness and encouraging public involvement while seeking additional information about the proposed project.
The organization says it hopes community members will join the conversation and help ensure that potential impacts are fully understood before development is allowed to move forward.
