Nearly 80,000 people are expected to visit Evansville, Indiana for the total solar eclipse taking place on Monday, April 8, 2024. The logistics of that many additional people has emergency responders working to prepare, and has caused Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb to issue a State of Emergency for the entire Hoosier State.

Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed an executive order to support the anticipated needs of Indiana’s emergency response, transportation, communication and critical infrastructure systems due to the expected high-number of visitors traveling to the state to view the total solar eclipse.

That that many additional people in our city of 120,000 will undoubtedly cause some issues regarding traffic and potentially even problems with communications.

Citing "logistics," the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library says it will close all of its locations on April 8, 2024, due to the upcoming total solar eclipse that will impact the area, they said in a post on social media. They aren't the only ones either - just last week, Evansville Water Sewer Utility shared their plans to close the Sunset Pump Station to the public for the day.

All EVPL locations will be closed on Monday, April 8. This is due to the anticipated traffic and logistics surrounding the total solar eclipse.
