It's never easy seeing a locally owned gathering place say goodbye.

After nearly three decades in Newburgh, Cricket's has announced it will permanently close its doors this week.

If you've ever enjoyed a pizza, a beer, or karaoke at Cricket's over the years, you know this one hits a little harder.

A Newburgh Staple for Nearly 30 Years

According to Fingers, Forks, Knives, and Spoons, Brad Berkermeier has worked at Cricket's since June 17.1997, and took ownership of the establishment on July 7, 2007.

The tavern has been a familiar stop for locals looking for pizza, cold drinks, live music, and a place to catch up with friends.

The building at 518 W. Main Street has a long history of its own, having previously housed Von Toss, Frenchie's, and Don and Donna's before becoming Cricket's.

One Last Bike Night

Cricket's will host its final Bike Night on Tuesday, July 14, inviting customers to enjoy one last evening of motorcycles, food, drinks, and live music.

In announcing the event, Cricket's shared:

Come enjoy one last night of Cool Bikes, Cold Beer, and Great Times.

The bar also encouraged customers to help "drink us dry and eat all we have to offer" during its final week in business.

Final Day Scheduled for July 18

According to Cricket's Facebook page, they plan to remain open through Saturday, July 18, or until they run out of food and beverages.

That means longtime customers still have a few days to stop in for one last pizza, raise a glass with friends, or simply say goodbye to a place that has been part of Newburgh for nearly 30 years.

Saying Goodbye to Another Local Favorite

Independent bars and restaurants become part of a community in ways chain restaurants rarely do. They're where birthdays are celebrated, bike nights become traditions, and familiar faces greet you when you walk through the door.

It's always bittersweet to see one close.
