Princeton, Indiana will soon be home to a fully staffed and fully operational state-of-the-art YMCA. Here's how you can get a tour of the facilities.

The YMCA has a history of more than 170 years, putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. That legacy continues in Princeton, where a new branch will soon welcome people from all walks of life to enjoy everything the YMCA offers. The organization will host an open house on several dates in February, providing plenty of opportunities to tour the building in person.

New YMCA in Princeton Will Have It All

The new YMCA in Gibson County is located at 215 W Water Street in Princeton, the site of the former Lowell School. In 2020, the property was generously donated by the North Gibson School Corporation as an investment in the community. Now, nearly five years later, that investment is starting to pay off. Below are some of the amenities that will be available to new members:

  • Locker Room & Family Changing Room facilities
  • A full Wellness Area with free weights, cardiovascular and strength equipment, and functional fitness area
  • Gymnasium
  • Swimming pool with lap and recreational swimming
  • Group Exercise classes from traditional Aerobics to Kickboxing and Pilates
  • Indoor Cycling classes
  • Staffed Child Watch and Kids Zone areas for kids while their parents workout
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Lab for youth programs
  • Universal lounge
  • Multi-purpose Community rooms for education programs
  • Teaching Kitchen for small group, youth, and family cooking classes

Building a New YMCA Facility

Turning an old school into a state-of-the-art wellness facility is no small feat, but the YMCA has received strong support throughout the process. The Princeton Daily Clarion previously reported that the majority of the construction funds came from a request to use $13.2 million in Patoka-Union Township Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District revenue. That request was approved unanimously by county officials. The new YMCA was also partially funded by a $1 million donation from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana.
