Road Closure Planned for State Road 261 in Warrick County

The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced a road closure for State Road 261 in Warrick County. As you know, that's a pretty busy stretch of road that runs from Boonville into Newburgh. So, here's what you need to know.  Beginning on or around Monday, July 6, crews will close State Road 261 near Boonville. This closure will occur between Baker Road and Country Road 350 West.

INDOT says that the road will be closed to allow for a pipe replacement project. Now, the good news is that the work is only supposed to take about two days to complete, depending on the weather.

The official detour for this project is State Road 62 to State Road 61 to State Road 66. Local traffic will have access up to the point of closure. For those who are not good with road names, here's what that detour looks like:

Now, I'm not sure if this is 100% true or not, but I was told the reason why INDOT creates detours that might be a little out of the way for folks is that they can only give official detours on State Roads. That makes sense. So, for those of us who want to make our own detour, might I suggest a different route? There are plenty of ways to detour that stretch of road, depending upon where you are going. However, if I am going from Boonville to Newburgh or vice versa, I would take State Road 62 to State Road 61 to Vann Road. Here's what that looks like:

No matter what route you take, you should be aware of this road closure, especially if it is a part of your daily commute. As always, INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones.
