It sounds like Hoosiers need to chill. We were recently ranked very high on the list of the angriest states in America.

I am proud to be a native of Indiana. I've lived here my whole life and while I wish we were closer to places like the beach, we still have a lot of great things to offer for a "flyover state". Indiana is full of many small towns with a great deal of charm. We also are home to a few big cities that have a lot to offer residents. That being said, there's a lot of things that can stress you out about living in Indiana. These things include all of the constant road construction, the unpredictable weather, and of course, people in general. These things can lead to a lot of angry moments for Hoosiers.

So, how angry is Indiana? The website, Travel A Lot, recently found the angriest states in America. They used data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's most recent Fatality Analysis Reporting System, Wired magazine's investigation into online trolls, and the FBI's hate crime data to reveal the disturbing reality of anger-motivated incidents across the nation. Let's see how Indiana faired.

Is Indiana One of the Angriest States in America?

According to the data from Travel A Lot, the answer to that question is yes. In fact, Indiana was ranked as the fourth angriest state in the United States. Here's what Travel A Lot revealed:

Indiana has one of the highest percentages of fatalities caused by road rage, amounting to an astounding 10%. Road rage fatalities amounted to 1.1 per capita, which is a fairly high number compared to all 50 states. But it's not just road rage that’s a problem in the Hoosier state.

Hate crimes are an issue in Indiana as well. Hate crimes account for 1.11 for every 100,000 residents. Hateful internet comments were a problem as well, at 6.5%, according to Wired magazine’s study on internet trolls. All of these stats considered bring Indiana to the number four spot.

Now, I am sure you have seen a lot of those things happen to others and even yourself in Indiana. Perhaps, you are one of those internet trolls yourself. Whatever the case might be, it sounds like we Hoosiers need to take a chill pill...maybe even eat a Snickers.

16 Indiana Towns with Dirty-Sounding Names

A majority of these towns were given their names in the mid-to-late 1800s as settlers making their way across the country found unclaimed plots of land and decided to make them their own. While I imagine they thought the names they came up with were innocent, and perhaps a tribute to something in their lives, pop culture has warped our minds to the point since then that we can't help but think of something about the town that was never intended by its founders. Take a look at this list. I guarantee there's at least one name that will make you chuckle.

30 Bizarre (and Real) Indiana High School Mascots

According to High School.com, there are 682 high schools in Indiana. 555 of those are public schools, while the remaining 127 are private. A majority of those schools have chosen typical mascots to represent them, like eagles, tigers, lions, jets, patriots, and so on and so forth. But, these 30 schools decided to go, well, a different direction.
