Camping at Indiana State Parks

While hardcore campers will enjoy camping all year long, for many the camping season runs from Spring through Fall. Spring is right around the corner and many campers are getting ready for the warmer months so they can hit up their favorite campgrounds. With warmer months come busier times at campgrounds, and many Indiana State Parks are looking for campground hosts to help out during the busier camping season.

Indiana State Parks Need Campground Hosts

Indiana State Parks took to Facebook to announce that they are currently searching for campground hosts for the 2024 season. So what is a campground host? Well they are hosts who volunteer at the campground in exchange for free camping. According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, camp hosts must volunteer for a minimum of 20 hours per week and must be able to pass background checks.

According to Indiana State Parks on Facebook, there are several campgrounds in need of hosts during the 2024 camping season including Harmonie State Park here in the Tri-State.

CAMPGROUND HOSTS NEEDED: Campground hosts are important volunteers that help with many jobs around the campground and park. Learn more about campground hosting and see complete list of host duties per property at https://on.in.gov/DNRCampgroundHost, contact the property where you would like to serve or email Jody Heaston (jheaston@dnr.IN.gov). The following properties are still looking for hosts for this season:

What Does a Campground Host Do?

When looking at the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website, each campground has a specific set of items the campground host has to do. For instance, a few of the most common tasks are things like checking that the bathrooms are stocked and cleaned as needed, and taking out bathroom trash, some campgrounds have the hosts sell firewood and bug spray. And overall the campground host is there to act as a liaison to answer questions and concerns for other campers.
