Evansville Thunderbolts to Host Hockey Fights Cancer
The Evansville Thunderbolts are back at home on Nov. 16 for Hockey Fights Cancer with the American Cancer Society.
The Evansville Thunderbolts are set to take on the Peoria Rivermen this Saturday at the Ford Center. However, that won't be the only adversary highlighted on the ice that night. The team will also host "Hockey Fights Cancer," a special event aimed at uniting the community in support of cancer patients and their families. It will be a fun evening for everyone involved and a great way to support the American Cancer Society (ACS) in Southern Indiana.
Hockey Fights Cancer in Evansville
According to the NHL, Hockey Fights Cancer was founded in 1998 as a joint initiative between the NHL and NHLPA. Since then, the initiative has raised over $32 million to support those affected by cancer. SPHL teams have also taken part in the initiative over the years, including the Evansville Thunderbolts, who have teamed up with ACS to bring one such event to Evansville.
"If you are not a Thunderbolts fan, you need to go check out the Evansville Thunderbolts. You’ve got to love those guys. They are giving their all, and they do great things within our community," said Katrinka Rynder, Senior Development Manager for ACS.
Raising Funds for the American Cancer Society
On Saturday night, signs that say "I Fight For" followed by a blank space will be located in the Ford Center lobby, thanks to ACS. Hockey fans are encouraged to write the name of the person they are fighting for in the blank spaces. Additionally, for every ticket purchased via THIS LINK, the Evansville Thunderbolts will give $5 back to ACS. The funds will be used to continue providing rides for cancer patients.
"We're here to help them get to their appointments," Rynder said. "Health equity is so important here, and that's what we're fighting for in Vanderburgh County and the surrounding area."
The game starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. To see the full Thunderbolts game schedule, click HERE.
