I Think I May Have Stopped Unwanted Warranty Calls
Instead of blindly following groupthink, maybe sometimes I should just take the bull by he horns and try something to see if it will work.
I'm obviously not the only one who's been plagued by phone calls asking me to purchase a warranty for my vehicle--well, I say "my" vehicle, but the one they keep mentioning is a car I haven't had in five years.
Already today, I have received three phone calls from 270-594-8692 and I don't respond because every time it comes up, AT&T warns me with the message, "Spam Risk." But these people are relentless.
But you know what I did? After not answering and responding with "Please text me," I called the number back. So simple, right? Well, I've actually done that before and I get the message that the number is no longer in service or it just disconnects as soon as I call. But this time I called it back.
To my surprise, I got an answer. It's a company called Auto Warranty Services and the first thing out of the recorded voice's "mouth" were instructions to press "1" if I wanted to opt out of future calls. So I did it.
The first three came an hour apart, and it's been just over an hour since I "opted out." So am I safe to assume it worked?
Probably not, since we all know what happens when we assume. But I WAS surprised that one, I got an answer, and two, I was given this option.
Now I'm going to go through the other mystery numbers and see what I can come up with. And, by the way, I've been on the national "do not call" registry for 14 years and I still get a LOT of unwanted calls. If I were to go through all the steps necessary to reporting these numbers to the Federal Trade Commission, I'd never get any work done.
So I'm not saying that doesn't work; I'm just saying I have work to DO and can't spend all day on the phone trying to stay off the phone.
