It's time to start thinking about Spring cleaning. If you are like me, you have a ton of stuff you don't use that you can quickly sell at a yard/garage sale or, better yet, give to charity.

Goodwill is where we have always given the things we no longer use or need. I have always supported what Goodwill does for its employees.

What is the mission of Goodwill?

Goodwill provides training, employment, and supportive services for people with disabilities or disadvantages who seek greater independence. Our vision is to transform lives and communities through the power of work

So much of what we accumulate, we don't really use. Some of the stuff that is cluttering up our closets, basements, spare bedrooms, and garages is in good condition and can easily be used by someone else.

Other items that have simply worn out or broken need to be cleaned out or replaced, too. But, Goodwill is not the place for those items.

Here is what Goodwill says about items that they can't and won't take.

...some items for being non-recyclable or containing hazardous materials. Other times, the item must be refused because it costs more to transport, repair or refurbish than it can be sold for in our stores.

Sometimes the items they won't take in are because of health and safety guidelines or individual state laws that prohibit the resale of certain items. Other times, it has to do with space and resell ability.

Please remember that Goodwill and other organizations like it are not a place to dump everything you don't. Be respectful when donating items. If it's trash or something that can't be donated, find out where you can recycle or safely dispose of it.
