Farmer’s Almanac 2023 Predicting One More Blast of Winter for Southern Indiana
The winter of 2022-2023 has been a mixed bag of ice and spring-like weather. We haven't had a ton of snow to deal with, but several nights of extremely cold temperatures made for some dangerous black ice.
Is the Worst of Winter Over?
Well, we know that the pesky groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter, and that pretty much aligns with the Old Farmer's Almanac's winter outlook for 2023.

If we combine both of these weather prediction sources, it certainly looks like Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois will see more precipitation and cold temperatures.
How Does the Farmer's Almanac Predict the Weather?
Our local Meteorologists use computers and different Doppler radar information to give us the forecast. The Farmer's Almanac predicts the weather outlook over a year at a time. Once the book is printed, there is no going back and changing the predictions.
The time-tested process for predicting long-range forecasts is all based on math and science. It must still be working because the Farmer's Almanac has about an 85% accuracy rate.
The formula takes into consideration things like sunspot activity, tidal action of the Moon, the position of the planets, and a variety of other factors. The only person who knows the exact formula is the Farmers’ Almanac weather prognosticator who goes by the pseudonym of Caleb Weatherbee. To protect this proprietary formula, the editors of the Farmers’ Almanac prefer to keep both Caleb’s true identity and the formula a closely guarded brand secret.
