The 2016-17 school year is nearly half over, but for those that like make plans way in advance, the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation has released calendars for both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years.

At the risk of sounding like an old man, when I was in grade school we didn't start the year until the day after Labor Day and wrapped up the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, or sometime the week after. But that was, as they say, "many moons ago" before students were required to have 180 days of classes.

The 2017-18 calendar kicks of the school year on Wednesday, August 9th with a nine day Holiday Break December 21st through January 2nd, and Spring Break March 26th through 30th, 2018 before calling it a year on May 23rd.

The 2018-19 year begins Wednesday, August 8th with a 10 day Holiday Break beginning Thursday, December 20th and ending on Wednesday, January 2nd. Spring Break plays out over the final full week of March, starting on the 25th and concluding on the 29th with an end date of Wednesday, May 22nd.

Also new to both calendars is the extension of Fall Break from four days to five (counting Saturday and Sunday). This year's break gave students Friday, October 7th and Monday, October 10th off. In 2017, they'll get Friday, October 6th through Tuesday, October 10th, and Friday, October 5th through Tuesday, October 9th in 2018.

You can find both calendars available for print or download on the EVSC website.
