Are you ready for some hockey!

Our hometown Evansville Icemen kick off the 2012 season, and their first as a member of the NHL-affiliated East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), this Saturday night inside The Ford Center in downtown Evansville! And who better to take on in the home opener, then hated in-state rivals, the Fort Wayne Komets.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about hockey, but I have really enjoyed the few Icemen games I went to last season. If you've never been, you should really check it out. Especially a game against Fort Wayne. It's hard to tell who doesn't like the Komets more, the Icemen players, or the Icemen fans. My son and I took in a game against the Komets last season and the crowd was in it the whole time. When the Icemen scored, the place erupted. When Fort Wayne put the puck in the net, the boos were deafening. There were even several fan-led, "Komets suck" chants throughout the night.

Last year, the two teams each took six wins and tied once, so expect an intense game as each team looks to make an early jump on their opponent.

Everyone in attendance Saturday night receives an Icemen magnet schedule so you'll know when the next home game will be every time you open the fridge, along with an Icemen window cling you can proudly display on your vehicle and let everyone know you support our hometown, professional hockey team.
