The sports equipment retailer announced Wednesday that it will no longer carry assault-style rifles or high-capacity magazines.

Early Wednesday morning, The New York Times announced that Dick's Sporting Goods is immediately ending sales of all assault-style rifles in its stores. In addition, the retailer also said it will no longer sell firearms to anyone under 21 years of age, regardless of current gun laws.

This announcement comes just two weeks after the devastating school shooting in Parkland, Florida that left 17 students and staff members dead, as well as several more injured.

The New York Times interviewed the Chief Executive of Dick's, Edward Stack, who said, “When we saw what happened in Parkland, we were so disturbed and upset. We love these kids and their rallying cry, ‘enough is enough.’ It got to us.”

This is effective immediately in all Dick's Sporting Goods stores, including the new location that recently opened in Evansville.
