Cream of Chicken Mislabeled as Chili at Indiana Canning Factory

An Indiana canning factory has labeled some of the cans rolling off its assembly line with the wrong product label and it has prompted a recall by the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

More than 2,000 Pounds of Canned Cream of Chicken/Chili Recalled

Consumers should be aware that Morgan Foods, located in Austin, Indiana is recalling over 2,000 pounds of Skyline Chili after incorrect labels placed on the cans resulted in "misbranding and undeclared allergens," according to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.

So What's In the Cans?

Soup... but not just any soup - Cream of Chicken soup. The affected cans are labeled as "Skyline Chili Original Chili" and come in 10.5 oz cans. They are labeled with lot code "L2121" as well as product code "CHC8T UPY." The lot code and product code are located on the bottom of the can. They are also stamped with a best-by date of Dec. 21, 2023.

How Was It Discovered?

According to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service,

The problem was discovered by consumers who reported to the company that the cans labeled as chili contained cream of chicken soup.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

What Do I Do If I Have This Product?

The mislabeled products were shipped to retailers and grocers nationwide. There have not been any reports of adverse reactions by anyone consuming the products. However, If you have any of these products in your cabinets or pantry, you are encouraged to either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
