The Boy Scouts of America in an effort to become more inclusive are renaming their flagship Boy Scouts program to Scouts BSA beginning in February 2019. As more and more girls and transgendered children are joining Boy Scouts, the organization thought the name change to be more appropriate in progressive times.

According to the Associated Press, the Chief Scout Executive Mike Surbaugh had this to say:

“We wanted to land on something that evokes the past but also conveys the inclusive nature of the program going forward. We’re trying to find the right way to say we’re here for both young men and young women.”

With the number of girls and transgendered children joining on a sharp rise, it's not surprising that the organization would want to make a change. Many organizations and businesses are eliminating 'boy' and 'girl' labels and heading toward a more inclusive culture altogether. Bravo, Scouts BSA!
