A Spatula Isn’t Really a Spatula
I've been wrong my entire life.
In today's edition of "I was today-years-old when I found this out", we have the word 'spatula'.
For my entire life, I have called this a spatula:
I feel like I'm not alone on this one. I mean, it's a spatula, right?
WRONG.
A quick Google searched will reveal that THIS is actually a spatula:
Ok, to be fair, I'm not even really sure what I referred to the rubbery thing as anyway. I think I've just called it the "cake batter thing" because I've only ever used it to scrape cake batter out of a bowl. However, I am 100% sure that I've never called it a spatula. To me, a spatula has always been the flipper thing that you flip pancakes with or eggs or literally whatever you have in your pan.
So, the real term for the 'spatula' is actually just called a 'flipper'.
Here's another Google snippet to confirm.
I MEAN....I've never called it a 'flipper'.
Maybe I'm the only one that's done this...but I doubt it. Somewhere during my 25 years of life, someone called it a spatula and it stuck with me this entire time.
I asked The Rob to weigh in on it and here's the result:
SEE. I TOLD YOU IT WASN'T JUST ME.
I do not plan to start calling a spatula a flipper anytime soon. I will refer to the rubbery thing as the rubbery thing and the "flipper" as the spatula.
That's all for today's edition of "I was today-years-old when I realized this".
