The fire reportedly began around 6:30am Wednesday morning, January 18, 2023 in Shiloh, Illinois. Fox 2 out of St. Louis shared aerial video of the fire as it was being contained by O'Fallon Fire and Rescue.

After officials were able to investigate what was left of the barn once the fire was contained, they learned that 15 goats escaped, but 5 died in the fire as reported by KSDK in St. Louis. Their report states that investigators believe the fire was started when goats knocked down a portable heater. The hay in the barn caught fire after the heaters were knocked over.
