The big news yesterday was that Disney announced there will be a full length motion picture sequel to its insanely popular Frozen movie franchise.  Little is known about the movie's plot at this time, and the film does show a lot of promise as it reunites the original cast AND the producers from the first film (the latter of which is MUCH more important in my opinion).  I want to make some things very clear before I begin my tirade, though.

1.) I am a fan of Frozen.  I have the first movie on Blu-Ray, in fact, I excitedly bought it the very day it came out.  I am NOT a Frozen hater.

2.) I am a huge fan of Disney.  The number of official Disney movies I own (no bootlegs or anything) may total in the low hundreds.  Just simply knowing the Disney name is attached to a movie makes it better in my opinion.  I am a true LOVER of Disney movies.

With that being said, while I hate being the turd in everybody's punch bowl*, here is a list of reasons you should NOT be excited for Frozen II:

  1. Aladdin II: The Return of Jafar
  2. Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World
  3. The Lion King II: Simba's Pride
  4. An Extremely Goofy Movie
  5. The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea
  6. Lady and the Tramp ii: Scamp's Adventure
  7. Cinderella II: Dreams Come True
  8. The Hunchback of Notre Dame II
  9. 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure
  10. Mulan II
  11. Tarzan II
  12. Lilo & Stitch II: Stitch Has a Glitch
  13. Kronk's New Groove
  14. Bambi II
  15. The Fox and the Hound 2
  16. Cars 2
  17. The Jungle Book 2
  18. Fantasia 2000

I could go on.

Now, to be fair, most of those movies were straight-to-video releases, often times without the original stars or released decades after their original.  BUT my point is Disney is not necessarily known for the great care and quality put into their sequels...  I'm just saying.  Absolutely Toy Story 2's and Monsters Universities happen (and, if you want my honest opinion, I expect Frozen 2 to fall more in line with those two than the first 18 movies), but let's not get excited until we know it's something worth getting excited about.

*Actually false, I love being the turd in everybody's punch.
