After what felt like decades, Shyler's BBQ finally reopened their doors to the public. No longer located on S Green River Rd, they are now in the same complex with Gander Mountain and Hobby Lobby. A new location is always nice, but what about the food? Is it the same as before?

The short answer is: kind of? I dined at Shyler's on Sunday night and it wasn't as busy as I had expected to be, considering how highly anticipated the reopening was. So far the reviews for the new and improved Shyler's have been mixed.  For my order, I ordered the BBQ pulled pork with a side salad and mashed potatoes and brown gravy. My sister ordered the pulled pork with macaroni and cheese (pictured below)

The service I received was pretty good, but you could see that they were still working out all of the kinks. I enjoyed what I ordered but I have to admit that everything felt just a tad off. I've had many different BBQ sauces since Shyler's closed so maybe my tastebuds have adapted to something different? I can't put my finger on it but something felt off. the meal wasn't bad by any means, just not quite what I remembered.

Nostalgia could be playing a big part of it as well. When you walk into the restaurant, it has that Shyler's feel but a tad updated (i don't recall the old Shyler's having so many tv's). As for as nostalgia for the food, maybe I was remembering the taste incorrectly or maybe they did change things up.

Overall, I'd say I enjoyed eating at Shyler's for the first time in years. Although, it might not be exactly what you remember, it's still pretty great and definitely affordable. Hopefully as things progress, they can get back to the taste that I remember.
