Jack-o-lanterns are a fun Halloween decoration, but if not disposed of properly, the mark they leave behind can be scary as I found out the hard way.

Every year we buy a couple of pumpkins from wherever and let our kids draw, color, or carve them for our front porch. And every year, they get left out too long and they rot. Apparently after this past Halloween, not only did they rot, but a seed or two obviously fell into the landscaping in front of our house. Thanks to the rain we've received since then, we now have this thing devouring our flower bed.

As you can see, it's slowly starting to engulf a four foot tall bush on the corner of our flower bed.

What's the lesson here? When Halloween is over, throw your darn pumpkins in the trash!
