This past weekend was officially 2 years since I met Wrigley! Her adoption fee was the best $135 I've ever spent! Wrigley is a rescue, I adopted her through Another chance for Animals here in Evansville.  I actually had put the adoption application in on her sister, but when I went they had 3 pups left and her foster mama Kasey let me see all 3 pups, Wrigley climbed up in my lap and that was it, she had chosen me!

Wrigley is my first dog I got while living on my own!  It's hard to believe it's been 2 years since I got her! It's totally weird when you think about it, how you gain so much love for these weird, adorable creatures (seriously read this!).  I saw a quote one time that said "my dog does this weird thing where he just exists and it makes my whole life better."  And I have to agree!

Wrigley has really made me realize the importance of adopting your pets.  Without the local rescues in town, Wrigley could have easily been another statistic of a dog that had to be euthanized for space. And I can say from experience secondhand dogs make first class pets!

I know you hear it all the time, but seriously if you are considering getting a new pet, seriously consider adopting from a local rescue, one of the humane societies in town, or even Animal Control, a lot of the rescues (if not most of them) pull pets from Animal Control. A lot of people think that they need a pure bred dog, but just because they aren't "pure bred" doesn't mean they are any less valuable or that there's something wrong with them. In fact it may shock you how many pure bred dogs you will find in shelters.

Many people think that because breeders charge so much for the dogs they won't end up in shelters, but that isn't always the case.  Instead of going after a dog just because you like the looks of the dog, maybe try going for a dog that has a personality, and temperament that fits your lifestyle.  Shelters and rescues around here are very good at getting to know the personality of the dogs they have and then placing them with families whose lifestyle the dog will fit in with.  I am very lucky to have my secondhand dog, and I wouldn't trade her for anything!

And here's a couple more pictures because I think she is cute!
