Two cities in Indiana were ranked near the top of a new survey of the top 100 places to live in the United States. Do you think you know which city it is?

I am proud to be a native of Indiana. I've lived here my whole life and while I wish we were closer to places like the beach, we still have a lot of great things to offer for a "flyover state". Indiana is full of many small towns with a great deal of charm. We also are home to a few big cities that have a lot to offer residents. Recently, two of these Indiana towns were named among some of the best places to live in the country. Not just named among the list, but near the top.

There are thousands of cities and towns scattered across the country that exist as great places to live, providing an abundance of entertainment, education, jobs, and safety to residents. The fact that only two Indiana towns made the list compiled by Livability, is kind of shocking (I was hoping we would have more towns representing the state on the list), but it certainly does speak volumes about these two towns. Before we go into which towns made the list, let's first go over how Livability selected the top 100 best places to live in the United States. First, they considered only cities with a population between 75,000 and 500,000. The website goes on to say:

We partnered with Applied Geographic Solutions (AGS) to select our Top 100 Best Places To Live in the U.S. in 2023. Together we curated our cities based on nearly 100 data points and an algorithm taking into account measures of a city’s economy, housing and cost of living, amenities, transportation, environment, safety, education, and health.

Two Indiana Cities Among the Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S.

The two Indiana towns that landed near the top of this list are ones that you most likely won't be surprised to see. First off, the town that landed at number three on the list is Carmel. Here's what Livability had to say about this Indiana town:

Roughly 30 minutes outside of Indianapolis is Carmel, IN, a picturesque city with a stellar arts scene and top-rated schools. Carmel embraces quality of life, and residents have access to a variety of cultural events and outdoor activities.

The second town in Indiana that made the list of the top 100 best places to live in the United States is Fishers. This Indiana town came in at number eight on the list. The fact that the only two towns in Indiana found on the list made it in the top 10 is incredible. Here's what Livability says about Fishers:

Minutes from Indianapolis, Fishers perfectly blends small-town suburban life and big-city amenities. With top-ranked schools, safe neighborhoods, and plenty of parks and recreation, the city offers a family-friendly environment and an affordable cost of living.
