I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to be caught up in these weather conditions!

When it comes to the weather in Indiana, we all know that Mother Nature never can seem to make up her mind. One day it's cold, the next it's warm, then out of nowhere, it's snowing. It's like we can get all four seasons in one week here in Indiana. You really never know what you're going to get. That being said, have you ever wondered what the highest and lowest temperatures in the state have been? How about the most rain or snowfall we have received?

Stacker compiled a list of the most extreme temperatures ever recorded in each state. So, I thought it would be interesting to see how Indiana faired. The all-time highest temperature recorded in Indiana occurred on July 14th, 1936 Collegeville St Joseph County Airport in South Bend. It was a whopping 116° F...and I don't think that includes the heat index. More recently, on January 19th, 1994, in New Whiteland the all-time lowest temperature ever recorded in Indiana was -36° F. Once again, I'm sure that doesn't include the wind chill that day either.

When it comes to the most rain and snowfall ever recorded in Indiana, Stacker based this on the most rain or snow recorded within a 24-hour period. The highest 24-hour snowfall happened on December 23rd, 2004 in Salem. The town received 33 inches of snow that day. I couldn't imagine trying to drive to work in that! Stacker also shared the highest 24-hour precipitation too. This one actually comes from right here in the Evansville area. According to Stacker:

On Aug. 6, 1905, Princeton, a city in Indiana's Gibson County, recorded the highest one-day-long rainfall event in the state at 10.5 inches. More recently, in June 2019, severe storms in central and southern Indiana caused floods that left thousands of households powerless. Several roads also had to be closed after there were reports of cars being stuck in the floods.
