Gareth Edwards pretty much had the dream moviemaking experience when he directed Last year’s Rogue One: He got to be a part of a franchise he’d loved since he was a kid, but he also got to contribute his own ideas to an almost entirely original story within that franchise instead of being bound by the confines of an already-established plotline. At SXSW on Monday, Edwards delivered a keynote speech about his work in Star Wars and becoming a filmmaker, and revealed that one of the planets in Rogue One got its name from a fortuitous misspelling at a coffee shop.

The SXSW Film Festival starts tomorrow(!) and to kick it off early, Netflix has premiered three whole trailers for their offerings at the fest: Everybody’s out to get Melissa Leo, Jake Johnson goes on a desperate gambling spree, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau just can’t catch a break.

Another person has died following the horrific drunk driving accident that occurred at Austin, Texas' South by Southwest music festival last week. Twenty-six-year-old Sandy Thuy Le passed away on Sunday night, March 16, Rolling Stone reports. Le had been hit by the car driven by 21-year-old Rashad Charjuan Owens, who drove drunk into a crowd of people early Thursday morning, March 13.

Tragedy has befallen SXSW, the music industry's biggest event, currently taking place in Austin, Texas. A driver plowed into a crowd of people outside the Mohawk venue, where rapper Tyler, The Creator was performing as part of the Vans showcase on late Wednesday night (March 12), killing two and injuring 23 more, sending them to the hospital.

Crowd goes nuts for Shady!

A  live-action re-imagination of Nintendo 8-bit hero Super Mario as an angsty, mushroom-eating, down-on-his-luck plumber was a big hit this week at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas. "Mario" is a trailer-length short which filmmaker Joe Nicolosi doesn't intend to turn into a feature film. You can check out all two minutes of the project below.
