With Disney’s Moana less than a month away, the excitement for the studio’s latest animated high-seas adventure is gaining momentum. Disney previously released a clip of Dwayne Johnson singing the delightfully boastful “You’re Welcome,” and a few days ago another song was released on YouTube, this time sung by Canadian pop star Alessia Cara.

J.J. Abrams’ ‘God Particle’ Will Be the Third ‘Cloverfield’ Film
J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield universe is quickly becoming one of the more interesting cinematic universes. Instead of stringing together a series of connected sequels and spinoffs à la the Marvel and DC cinematic universes, the 2008 found footage thriller has spawned something a little more ambiguous. This year saw the surprise release of Bad Robot’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was less a sequel to the 2008 movie and more of a blood relative. And now we finally have confirmation of what the third film in the Clover-verse will be.

’Jurassic World 2’ Currently Casting More Kids for Dinosaurs to Scare
We’ve gotten tons of information about the vague feel of J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World 2 — it’ll deal, metaphorically, with the modern-day treatment of animals — but we haven’t heard much about the actual plot. Today, though, it sounds like Universal is finally getting the ball rolling with news of an open casting call for a child actor. Jurassic World attempted to update the franchise for modern audiences, but at least one tradition has stayed the same: it’s not a Jurassic Park movie without kids running form dinosaurs.

Thursday brought some big news for Harry Potter fans, namely that a five new movies are on the way. During a Global Fan Event for ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,’ J.K. Rowling announced that the Harry Potter prequel spinoff will be followed by four sequels, and that she’s already completed the script for the second film. The event featured a live-streamed panel with the movie’s cast, then afterwards showed the audience an exclusive sneak peek of the new movie.

With the success of Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla in 2014, plans were set in motion to bring back all of Hollywood’s giant monsters to the silver screen, revamping the shared universe created with the original Japanese kaiju and King Kong films for the modern day. Kong: Skull Island is next in line, with a March 2017 release date quickly approaching. Fans at NYCC were given cool posters for the movie, featuring a grid map of the titular island with the caption “Bring the Truth to Light.” But there’s a little more to the map than meets the eye.

Gal Gadot Says They Kept ‘Wonder Woman’ Simple, Discusses the Character’s Sexuality
Although fans have seen plenty of recent disappointments in the DC cinematic universe’s latest offerings, we’re all holding out hope for next summer’s Wonder Woman. She was one of the better parts of Batman v. Superman, and her solo film’s fantastic trailer starring Gal Gadot shook up the San Diego Comic Con in July. For the upcoming 75th anniversary of the character, Gadot talked a bit about her new movie and how director Patty Jenkins chose to tell a simple story.

Disney’s Gigantic just got a little more interesting, as the studio has promoted screenwriter Meg LeFauve to co-director for the upcoming animated project. The co-writer of Inside Out and Marvel’s Captain Marvel solo movie joins Tangled director Nathan Greno on the new film, which offers an animated reimagining of the classic Jack and the Beanstalk story, first previewed during last year’s D23 Expo.

‘Personal Shopper’ Trailer: Kristen Stewart Sees Dead People
I didn’t get to review Personal Shopper out of the Toronto Film Festival, so here’s the short short version: I liked it! Quite a bit actually; Kristen Stewart gives an outstanding performance as a young American living in Paris, who’s desperate to make contact with a ghost, and specifically with the ghost of her dead twin brother. To fund her quest, Stewart also works as the personal shopper for a fashion icon and socialite. It’s an unusual mix of elements, but a deeply engrossing one, with Stewart nodding at her celebrity status (and perhaps the loneliness of a certain kind of isolating fame) in interesting ways.

‘Black Panther’ Adds Another Villain to the Cast
Every good superhero needs a super-villain. Or two. Or if you’re making a Spider-Man sequel, like six. Marvel is slowly putting together its cast for Black Panther’s solo film, directed by Creed’s Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman as the Wakandan hero. They’ve already lined up Michael B. Jordan to play Erik Killmonger, who you know is a bad guy because his name is Erik Killmonger. And Lupita Nyong’o is playing Nakia, also known as the baddie Malice, who you know is a baddie because her name was Malice. But that’s not enough!
