The 2016 MLB Draft wrapped up on Saturday, and when all was said and done, three recent Mater Dei graduates found themselves with the opportunity to live out their childhood dreams of playing professional baseball.
On Saturday, the Mater Dei Wildcats Girls Softball Team will compete in the IHSAA Class 2A state championship game for the first time in the program's history when they face the Boone Grove Wolves out of Valparaiso, Indiana. The game will take place at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis at 12:30 p.m. Evansville time. Fortunately, if you can't make the game, it will be carried live by Fox Sports
69 athletes from 14 different schools in and around the Evansville area will make their way to Indiana University in Bloomington this weekend to compete for state titles during the Indiana High School Athletic Association State Track and Field Finals.
The Class 2A State Final is scheduled for next Friday at 11 a.m. Central inside Lucas Oil Stadium. If the Mater Dei Wildcats hope to make it there, they'll first have to travel two and a half hours north to Monrovia, Indiana to take on a Bulldogs team with the same intent.
If the road to a state title was easy, everyone would have one in their trophy case. Of course that's not the case, as the best teams advance each week to face each other which will be the case when the number one and number three teams in Class 2A meet at the Reitz Bowl Friday Night for the Regional Championship.
