Southern Indiana Coaster Named the Best Thrill Ride in the Entire State
A wooden mammoth, or steel loops? Which roller coaster tops all in the state?
When it comes to amusement parks and theme parks, there is no denying that no one does it better in the Hoosier state than good old Holiday World & Splashin' Safari. If you're from the tri-state area, there is a pretty good chance that at some point or another, you've enjoyed a warm day at Holiday World!
When I was a kid, my family would go to Holiday World every summer, and I have so many fond memories there. In fact, I'll never forget the year I was finally tall enough to ride the Raven! A total classic in my opinion, but is it the best in the state?
Top Thrill Rides in Each State
When I recently found a list of the top thrill rides in every state, my first thought was it HAD to be the Thunderbird. The Thunderbird is Holiday World's newest coaster and its first steel coaster. It's 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, and the world's first-ever launched wing coaster. If you haven't had the chance to ride it, I HIGHLY recommend it. However as incredible as the Thunderbird is, it was NOT named the best thrill ride in the state. That title goes to Holiday World's mammoth of a wooden coaster, The Voyage.
The Top Thrill Ride in Indiana
According to a list put together by Popular Mechanics, the best thrill ride in the state is Holiday World's The Voyage. Here is what they have to say about this ride:
At 6,442 feet, The Voyage at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari offers 1.2 miles of ride that boasts 24.2 seconds of “air time.” With five underground tunnels, drops up to 154 feet at 66 degrees of angle, crossovers, and banking while topping 65 miles per hour, there’s plenty to enjoy in the length of ride that has been named one of the top wooden coaster rides in the world.
As someone who has ridden The Voyage many times, I don't think they're wrong! It is a fantastic wooden coaster, and one of my favorites to ride each summer! If you want to see the full list of best thrill rides in each state, you can find those, here.
