Uber Rolls into Evansville

Company Aims to Create Flexible Working Opportunities In the Region

Uber today announced its popular ridesharing product, uberX, will launch in Evansville in early 2017.

Uber is a technology company that connects riders and drivers through a smartphone application. With Uber, riders can push a button on their phone and get a ride within minutes, 24/7, 365 days a year. Uber partners with pre-screened local drivers who use their personal vehicles to give neighbors a ride on their own schedule. Evansville is the 7th city in Indiana to welcome the ridesharing service.

“Uber’s upcoming launch will bring ridesharing to thousands of Evansville residents, creating earning opportunities for drivers in the region and expanding transportation options for all. Thanks in part to the collaborative efforts of the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville, we quickly realized that Uber would be a great fit for the community and look forward to serving riders and drivers in Evansville early next year,” said Marco McCottry, General Manager of Uber in Illinois and Indiana.

“In cities around the world ridesharing has expanded flexible working opportunities for residents,” said Lloyd Winnecke, Mayor of Evansville. “We would like to welcome Uber to Evansville and look forward to the benefits Uber can bring to our community.”

Over the next few weeks, Uber will be onboarding local Evansville residents interested in flexible earning opportunities driving with Uber. For more information and to sign up as a driver, click here and select “Evansville.”

To use Uber as a rider, first download the Uber app for iOS or Android. Then, create an account using your email address and phone number, and by adding your payment information.

When you’re ready to go, open the app and enter your destination in the “Where To” bar. You can do so by:

  • Searching for the name of a place
  • Entering an address, or;
  • Setting a pin

Once you’ve choose the ride, just tap ‘Request.’ When your driver is on the way, you’ll see:

  • Your driver’s picture and name
  • Picture of the vehicle, and make and model
  • Car’s license plate number

You can also watch the driver travel to your location on the app’s map. That way, you know you’re getting in the right car with the right driver. If you need to get in touch, you can call or text your driver through the Uber app.

When you arrive at your destination, just hop out—we’ll automatically charge the payment method on file.

After every trip, you can rate your experience and provide anonymous feedback about your driver. Should you need to get in touch, our in-app support feature is there to help.
