Indiana Woman Captures Photo of Epic Battle Between Snake and Bullfrog
We're all familiar with the way nature works - the concept of a food chain and survival of the fittest, right? We all realize that there are predators and there is prey and that animals eating each other is just part of the circle of life. You have most likely even seen images or footage of this kind of thing in action - a lion taking down a zebra, an eagle scooping up a fish, or a snake consuming some sort of helpless victim. In that last scenario, the snake almost always seems to emerge victorious - almost.
These pictures were captured by Mary Lancing, who lives in Brown County, IN, and they depict a life-and-death battle between a water snake and a bullfrog. What are the odds of Mary and her husband witnessing this situation while the snake is actually trying to swallow the frog?
It appears as though the snake clearly has the situation in hand (or should I say the frog in mouth), and the outcome seems to be inevitable. It would be a safe assumption, based on the pictures, that the snake was eventually going to finish what it started and eat that big bullfrog. But things aren't always what they seem.
I exchanged a couple of messages with Mary and I asked if the snake did indeed end up winning. To my surprise, she informed me that NO the snake did NOT win. Mary says, "My husband watched it and after about an hour the snake disgorged the frog."
Side note: "Disgorged" might be my new favorite word. It's a more dignified way of saying barf or vomit.
