Moving into the new place has drummed up a lot of ideas for my creative DIY wishlist and I cannot wait to try this new paint technique that I found.

Well, maybe it's less of a technique and more of a style of paint, but whatever! I cannot wait to try using chalk paint on the second hand dining table and chairs that we picked up recently! I know what you're thinking... and no I'm going to paint our table with chalkboard paint. I'll be using something called chalk paint. Originally my plan was to strip & refinish the table and chairs, but after doing some homework on the subject of refinishing furniture, I realized that I may have been being overly ambitious! Since the wood on the chairs is different than the wood on the table, I thought that revamping them would be a good way to bring them all together.

This table is almost identical to the one that I picked up for next to nothing, and this is very much what it will look like when I am finished with it.

According to everything that I have read, chalk paint doesn't require any stripping, sanding or priming. That puts it right up my alley! No stripping means no harsh chemicals, and no sanding means less mess! This, to me, is perfect! I have also read that chalk paint can be a little on the pricey side, but thanks to the wonderful world of the internet, I have also been able to find some great DIY recipes for chalk paint that use nothing more than interior latex paint that you'd buy at any home improvement store mixed with a little water and plaster of paris. A few recipes use tile grout mix, and others call for just plain ol' baking soda. I haven't decided on the exact recipe that I'll use yet for the table and chairs. I think I will at least try using the baking soda and the plaster of paris versions on a small project to see which one ends up working better. I can't wait to share with you when I tackle this project! In the meantime, I will continue mindlessly sifting through pins on Pinterest while I work up enough nerve to try!
