If you are on the Nextdoor app or website, you've probably seen all kinds of posts from your neighbors.

You can decide what information you want your neighbors to see, like your email address and emergency contact. If you would like to buy or sell items, there is a section for that, and subsections with categories. It looks a lot like Facebook Marketplace. You can even keep up with  MY 105.3 WJLT by following our page!

More Info, Less Drama

There is a ton of information shared throughout our neighborhoods. I see a lot of missing pet posts or people needing help with yard work. There are fewer political posts and a little less drama than on other social media platforms.

How Nextdoor is Different Than Other Social Media:

  • Neighborhood-Focused – Connects users with people in their local community rather than a global audience.

  • Real Identities & Addresses – Requires verification of real names and local addresses for authenticity.

  • Hyperlocal Content – Prioritizes neighborhood news, recommendations, and local events over viral trends.

  • Public Safety & Alerts – Includes crime reports, lost pet alerts, and emergency updates specific to the area.

  • Business & Service Recommendations – Encourages neighbors to share trusted local business referrals.

  • Limited Ads & No Influencers – Focuses on community engagement rather than influencer-driven content.

  • Buy, Sell, & Give Away – Features a marketplace for secondhand items within the local neighborhood.

Important Information

There is one very important piece of information that you need to be aware of. You can add your name and exact address, so you can connect with your neighbors that you may not know yet. You can choose to just select your area of town or street if you don't want everyone to know where your house is.

This is a great way to connect to our community, especially if you are tired of Facebook drama (Or you gave it up for Lent).
