Indiana and Kentucky Grandy’s Restaurants Abruptly Close Forever
Well, while the entire country was mourning the loss of TikTok, I found out that one of my favorite restaurants quietly closed its doors forever.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
One of my favorite memories from my childhood was going to Evansville - a pretty big deal since we lived in Princeton - and getting to eat at Grandy's. I don't eat steak, so the chicken fried chicken was basically heaven in my mouth. The mashed potatoes and gravy were just the best. No weird lumps or potato skin, just yummy mashed potatoes. I could slap that on a roll and eat it like a sandwich. I have even perfected the art of eating mashed potatoes while driving. But now, none of that matters.
The Rise and Fall of Grandy's
In 2019 Grandy's restaurants went through an ownership change, and this resulted in the Jasper and Oakland City locations closing. Oh, but before that, my beloved Green River Road location not only closed but was torn down!

I will admit that even though I drive past the Diamond and First Ave location almost every day, it's rarely busy, and sometimes you might think that it is closed. The signage outside the restaurant simply says the dining room is now open, which has been that way since the end of the pandemic.

Grandy's Locations Close with No Notice
According to Fingers, Fork, Knife Spoon Evansville the Evansville and Henderson locations both closed last week.
A manager of the First Ave. location stated that their last day open was today, Jan. 18th, and that "Since Covid both stores numbers have dropped significantly - just isn’t making enough anymore." An employee of the Henderson location posted that their last day was January 16th, and that the property had been purchased by another company. Future plans for the property are rumored to be a coffee shop.
There are several locations still open in Texas. Who's up for a quick flight?
