Explore Evansville shared the news that the city has officially proclaimed May 3-9, 2026, as National Travel and Tourism Week, shining a spotlight on an industry that plays a huge role in what makes our community thrive.

Why Tourism Matters in Evansville

Issued by Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry, the proclamation recognizes just how important tourism and hospitality are to the local economy. From hotels and restaurants to attractions and events, this industry helps support jobs, boost local businesses, and keep Evansville buzzing with energy year-round.

What National Travel and Tourism Week Represents

National Travel and Tourism Week itself is a nationwide tradition led by the U.S. Travel Association, designed to highlight how travel fuels local economies and strengthens communities across the country. Here at home, it’s also a reminder that creating a great destination doesn’t happen by accident – it takes teamwork.

How Evansville is Celebrating This Week

Throughout the week, Explore Evansville will be highlighting the many businesses and experiences that make up our local tourism scene – from dining and entertainment to sports and events.

If you walk through the mall today, you would never guess how alive the shops were, even through the 1980s. Enjoy this walk down memory lane I've put together, and maybe someday there will be new life inside 5011 Washington Ave.
