I have loved baseball for as long as I can remember, and I played for many, many years - from tee ball through high school. For most of that time, I had a dream of playing in the big leagues – more specifically, I wanted to play second base for the Chicago Cubs. As I got older, I realized that was not a realistic dream for me. Many young ball players have that dream, but only a select few see it come true.

From Southridge to the Show

Colson Montgomery is one of those special players, and he is living that dream right now! The former Southridge High School standout has been in the Chicago White Sox farm system for a few years, until he got THE call – he was heading to the show! Colson made his Major League debut on Friday, July 4th, and it was historic.

Before I tell you about Colson’s stellar weekend with the White Sox, you gotta watch this clip of him learning the great news. This WILL be the coolest video you see today!

Colson Makes History at the Plate

Colson started at shortstop against the Colorado Rockies, and it didn’t take long for the ball to find him. In his first inning – it was Chicago’s first defensive play of the game, actually – he made one of the most impressive catches of the season, preventing a run from scoring. When he eventually stepped to the plate, he made history – literally. Colson got on base by way of catcher interference, making him the first player in the Expansion Era (since 1961) to do so in his first MLB plate appearance.

A Breakout Performance in Game Two

His Major League dream got even better on Saturday, during his second game with the White Sox. Colson got his first big league hit – a triple to the right-center gap that got Colson his first big league RBI. The rookie shortstop got two more singles and ended the night going 3-for-5.

I don’t know if the Sox plan on keeping Colson in the lineup, but so far, he has given them plenty of reasons to do so.
