The Most Popular Halloween Candy in America Redux
I don't care what anyone says, it's spooky season y'all! Every candy you can think of is out there in stores ready for trick-or-treaters or maybe, just for you to nosh on either before or after Halloween.
Three years ago, I published a post about which candy every state in the US prefers and Kentucky's choice just never sat quite right with me which is why we are taking a fresh look at what purportedly is on this year's list.
In the map put out by Instacart, Kentucky and Indiana's favorite? Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, now we're talking. Throw those Swedish Fish back into the water! I mean I get the researchers who compiled the map three years ago were trying to make each state unique, but I'm still not convinced Swedish Fish was the Halloween candy favorite of the Bluegrass State. Indiana also prefers Reese's; way to go Hoosiers! Our other tri-state neighbors in Illinois, their trick-or-treat favorite is regular M&M's.
Since I see a lot more chocolate favorites, I'd say this map is more accurate. It's not an exact science, but it's fun to look at each state. Missouri's is an odd choice, Tootsie Rolls? Louisiana prefers Tootsie Pops. A big bulk of the upper midwest heading west and Hawaii prefer peanut M&M's. Texas's is a bit of a surprise, Skittles? They have chocolate bars the size of your car.
Well, apparently whoever put this new map together has a sense of humor. Kansas's favorite Halloween candy?
Wow, and here's my case for candy corn, it's just waxy sugar, it's fun, and it doesn't go in the trash. You know who you are.
