When I was a young kid, my dad freaked me out by pretending to get arrested at a Kiwanis Club gathering in our home. I don't remember the context of the prank, but I do know I was too young to understand the nuance of tomfoolery. I fell for it. Dad immediately calmed me down. (To this day, I regret possibly ruining the joke.)

Dad had good buddies all through the Owensboro Police Department, so I'm sure that wasn't the first time shenanigans like that ensued. It probably wasn't the last either, and that's a good thing. We've always needed a laugh, regardless of the circumstances.

Rain Man Partially Filmed in Kentucky

Speaking of shenanigans and police officers, let's fast forward to either 1987 or 1988. It's one or the other, because a picture that popped up on Facebook was taken while Hollywood icons Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman were in Northern Kentucky doing some partial filming of the 1988's Oscar-winning Best Picture Rain Man. In fact, this video begins in Southgate KY where a funeral scene was shot. Southgate is right across the Ohio River from Cincinnati.

(Incidentally, Cruise's brother, William Mapother is from Louisville; I wonder if Tom paid a visit.)

Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman 'Arrested'

So Rain Man is why Cruise and Hoffman were in Northern Kentucky. And while they were there, they had some fun in Boone County with local law enforcement.

And, as you can see from the Facebook post, it was a fun trip down memory lane for folks who remember the shot or may even have a copy, themselves.
