Severe Weather Risk for KY & IN Then Possible Snow This Week
As the old saying goes, if March comes in like a lion, it should go out like a lamb. In other words, if it's all stormy on March 1st or the first couple of days of the month, then it should be all nice and calm on March 31st. And vice versa.
That leads me to this question: Does March 4th count as the beginning of the month in the context of that adage? I only ask because Saturday was a very nice day, and it's starting to look like Tuesday will NOT be. Anyway, while the lions and lambs debate this out in our heads, we need to prepare for the possibility of severe weather in western Kentucky and southern Indiana this Tuesday.
Severe Weather Risk -- Kentucky & Indiana
On the National Weather Service's severity scale, it's still just a Level 1-Marginal Risk for severe weather for Tuesday, meaning there's a threat for isolated strong, damaging winds late Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening. Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist has us caught up here:
As Wayne Hart mentioned, those gusts could mean business, as well. This graphic from the NWS Paducah office rates the likelihood of those gusts:
Marginal Risk for Severe Weather - Definition
This lowest threat level usually means we'll all get off easy, but it's a threat, nonetheless, and we should be ready for anything, even if we know, specifically, why this threat level was issued.
A Marginal Risk was issued for Tuesday, March 4th, for our area, but the National Weather Service back it off of the tri-state over the weekend. But the threat has returned. All that means is that it could back off again or intensify.
Snow Possible
Earlier today, when I spoke with Wayne Hart, and then later on this TV forecast, he didn't rule out the possibility of snow showers at the end of all this. With the projected low Wednesday night being 30 degrees, I can understand his prognostication.
Typical Ohio Valley weather, right? If you don't like it, wait five minutes.
