Owensboro’s Inspiring Community Spirit Restores Faith In Humanity
This past weekend, my faith in humanity was restored. Seeing a community come together to support a neighbor in need reminded me that kindness is still around us all in a world that often divides us. We need more of this!
On Owensboro Chat, a humble young woman asked for help mowing her lawn. Her story isn’t mine to tell, but she’s been through a lot and is working incredibly hard to become the best version of herself for her and her children. The outpouring of support was incredible, proving once again that Owensboro shows up for those in need.
IT ALL STARTED WITH A POST
"Can someone please let me borrow their lawn mower? I can't afford to pay anyone to cut it. I will even mow your yard with it, please."
Within an hour, people began stepping up with offers to help by offering mowers, assistance, and words of encouragement. It was beautiful to witness. That one simple, vulnerable post brought out the best in so many. It reminded me that we can all make a difference, even in small ways. The post author was beyond humbled and appreciative.

HELP CAME QUICKLY
"I have someone coming to help today at 3 pm. Thank you all for responding and caring so much. This inspires me to reach out more with things I need help with in order to create the life I deserve for myself and my children. There is a long journey ahead of me, and I want you all to know, I have a restored sense of hope and renewed and strengthened my faith to diligently keep moving forward and staying strong and focused."
COWABUNGA LAWN AND LANDSCAPING STEPPED UP
"Hit me up. I own and operate Cowabunga Lawn and Landscaping. I will come transform it for you for FREE." - Jansen Crowe
Today, as I write this story, I realized something. I recognized one of the names, Jansen Crowe, who stepped up with his lawn care business to help. I’ve interviewed the Crowe family yearly at the Owensboro BBQ Festival, where they compete in the Backyard Cook-Off. They cook and raise money in honor of their late father, who passed away in 2018. They're a humble, generous family who always find ways to give back to their community. It’s no surprise that Jansen was one of the first to respond. I believe his dad would be incredibly proud.
THANK YOU!
To the young woman who reached out, everyone who responded, and to Cowabunga Lawn and Landscaping, thank you. You've reminded us all what being a neighbor truly means.
