OMG!Con 2025 Recap: Photos & Stories Prove Why It’s a Fan Favorite

This past weekend, if you were in downtown Owensboro, chances are you saw a Pokémon character running around, or one of the Mario brothers in overalls and initialed hats, or even a Star Wars stormtrooper or Ghostbuster in full gear.

If you were inside the Owensboro Convention Center, you saw and experienced so much more than just people in cosplay. This was only my second time going to the annual pop culture convention, and let me tell you, I will never miss another if I can help it. Even though I am not an anime watcher (yet), my family has lots of favorite fandoms when it comes to movies, books, and video games. We had an absolute blast.

All of the above is featured for three days as folks from across the country travel to Owensboro for the weekend of glorious geekiness at OMG!Con. It's funny, I found myself saying "OMG" over and over as I played fun games, shopped the cute trinkets and art in the vendor hall, and even as I just sat and people watched. Some of the cosplays were so accurate and detailed that they were literally jaw-dropping.

What warmed my heart the most was how welcoming and inclusive the experience was. You can tell that for a majority of the attendees, this is a really special time of community. Multiple times, I witnessed friends notice each other from across the lobby and run together for hugs. We're talking people from all walks of life. No matter your race, gender, socioeconomic status, etc., you will fit in at OMG!Con.

There were workshops, panels, incredibly talented voice actors, artists, authors, and game developers. Hilarious comedy shows, contests, light saber demonstrations, and dance parties that raved through the night. Even the kiddos got their own little Chibi room of fun games and crafts!
