Evansville, Indiana has long been the home of the USS LST-325. The impressive World War II ship launched back in October of 1942 and became instrumental in running transportation services between England and France at the height of the war. Today, it remains a fully functional ship (the only one left) and resides in Evansville eleven months of the year. Each Fall, however, the LST-325 sets sail to other ports cities "to share a piece of our nation's history and to educate the public about LSTs and the men who served on them."
Recent trips include visits to Dubuque, Iowa, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Hannibal, Missouri, and Brandenburg, Kentucky. This week, Owensboro, Kentucky will get added to the list. The USS LST-325, the last remaining vessel of its kind, will be sailing into Owensboro and docking at English Park downtown Friday, August 2nd and Saturday, August 3rd. Ship staff are currently hyping the visit on social media. "Get Ready, OWENSBORO, KY! We're headed you're way for a mini-cruise!"
Tours will be given on Friday the 2nd from Noon to 7pm CST. On Saturday, tours will be accessible from 9am to 5pm. According to the ship's official website, "standard tours include the Main Deck, Troop Berthing, Tank Deck, Mess Deck, Galley, Stern of ship (with Guns and Anchor), the Wheel House, Captain's Cabin, and more."
USS LST-325 tickets are $15 for adults, $7 for children 6-17, and children 5 and under are free. Self-guided tours of the ship will be available and the onboard gift shop will be open as well.

Fans of the ship agree that's it's a must see. Arch Cunningham shared this on the ship's Facebook post about its Owensboro visit. "Visit USS LST 325 if you can. Been aboard three or four times and enjoyed every visit. A true piece of American history well preserved!"
