There's a movie line I cite quite frequently when the occasion calls for it. Robert DeNiro utters this piece of dialogue in the political satire Wag the Dog after seeing the results of another crafty manipulation. (The explanation takes too long, and this story isn't about that movie 😉.)

"Makes you glad you lived this long."

With how quickly technological advances have been made over the last two decades, I've said that a lot. And I said it again when I discovered a Halloween-themed event that scores major points for uniqueness. Also, this time, technology isn't at the heart of my utterance.

There's so much wonderful cuisine to be found in Louisville, and Louisville Food Tours knows it. According to their website, these culinary walking tours shine a light on Louisville's history through food. And since it's Halloween, you have to have phantoms, right?

Hence, the Phantoms of Prohibition: Ghosts, Cocktails, & Bites Tour. I think it sounds ghoulishly delicious, don't you?

Your walking excursion includes a fascinating look at Al Capone's secret getaway--yes, he spent time in Derby City; a sampling of Prohibition-era cocktails; spooky ghost stories; and intriguing tales of secret bars and hideaways.

Your 1.5 mile walk will last three hours and include four food stops. The Prohibition Food Tours happen Tuesday through Friday, October 22-25 and October 29-November 1. Each tour holds up to 12 people, and the tickets are going fast. Of course, if you miss this one, there's always Whispers on Whiskey Row: Murder, Crime, & The Ghosts of Derby City.

Sounds like Louisville has you AND your belly covered this Halloween. I would expect nothing less from one of the finest food cities in the country.
