How You Can Help: Beechmont, KY Family Seeks Kidney Donor For 3-Year-Old Son
Meet Arthur "Dixon" Groves, a spirited 3-year-old from Beechmont, Kentucky, full of curiosity and energy. His Mom is on a mission to raise awareness of kidney disease and find a donor for her son. While the family waits for a medical match, Here's how you can help.
MEET DIXON
This brave little one has been facing health challenges for over a year and needs a kidney transplant. Despite the obstacles, his infectious smile and playful nature shine brightly. With a supportive family and a loving community, there’s hope for a healthier future. It's been a long year of unknowns, pain, and frustration.
How do we go from happy, smiley, full of laughter Dixon to this? I still don’t understand. His seizures are progressing each time. Hopefully, we can get some answers soon. Thanks to everyone who jumped in to help last night! You are loved and appreciated!, Katelyn posted on September, 14th after another seizure scare.
Even just spreading the word, every bit of support counts for this family. It's incredibly tough for Dixon and everyone around him.
SEARCHING FOR A KIDNEY
For some, getting a healthy kidney can happen overnight, but for others, it can take months or years. One of the toughest parts for the family is waiting for a suitable organ. According to the National Kidney Foundation, once you are added to the national organ transplant waiting list, you may receive an organ fairly quickly, or you may wait many years. The average wait time can be 3-5 years. Hopefully, Dixon and his family won't have to wait that long.
Fill out this survey with Cincinnati Children's Hospital to see if you're a match. As soon as a perfect match for Dixon is found surgery can be scheduled as early as a couple of months. Many people have started the process already. You can save this sweet boy's life.
While the family awaits a medical match, here’s how you can help:
1: Spread the word on social media to share Dixon's story.
2: Organize a fundraiser to help the family with travel and medical expenses.
3: Consider registering as a kidney donor to save lives.
4: Offer support for the family through meals, gift cards, or monetary donations.
