METHODOLOGY USED

All 50 states were ranked using 11 key metrics across four categories: finances, health, education, and parental leave. These factors included child care costs, maternal and child health, school quality and safety, and the availability of paid family leave with job protection. States earning the most points across these areas were ranked the best places to be a mom.

Leading the way are Massachusetts, Maryland, and New Jersey, which rank among the best states for moms due to strong performances across these key areas. In contrast, states like New Mexico and West Virginia face ongoing challenges, particularly in education and economic security.
