Hallmark Selects KY Neighborhood for Christmas Commercial
When I was a kid, my excitement could not be contained when the Sears and JCPenney Christmas catalogues arrived in August. From that point on, I looked at the toy section every day until the big day. If you were young during that era, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
But aside from the "Wish Books" coming in late summer, merchants and corporations didn't really lean heavily into the holiday season until right around Thanksgiving. In my family, we didn't even think about it until the Thanksgiving dishes were in the dishwasher.
That, however, is no longer the case. Today, many folks have their Christmas decorations up the second the Halloween decor comes down, and they wouldn't have it any other way. Neither would the Hallmark Channel, which usually begins its marathon of Christmas movies on November 1st. They already "primed the pump" in July.
That means the promotional ad for the holiday movie binge needs to be produced, like, yesterday. And a neighborhood in Louisville has won that "lottery" and will be the setting for that commercial.
I doubt this is the last we'll see of film crews in Louisville. Its magnificent old neighborhoods are beautifully maintained and make for very attractive filming locations. Just ask Ethan Hawke.
So if you see snow in the Norton Commons neighborhood in Louisville, you don't need to look at the calendar; it's still August. It's just that Christmas is starting earlier and earlier every year.
