Owensboro Fire Department Offers Fireworks Safety Tips

At some point in my youth, the Fourth of July surpassed Christmas as my favorite holiday. That status remains in place to this day. And before the angry emoji materializes in your head, I do enjoy Christmas in my way. I just enjoy Independence Day more. I mean, come on, FIREWORKS.

But you know as well as I do that the only way to have the best possible experience with your fireworks celebration is to practice safety measures. When you don't, well, let's just say enjoying all that cold watermelon after the backyard show won't be as rewarding.

Once you've accomplished all that you need to accomplish to be in line with Chief Leonard's selection, you can sit back and enjoy your fireworks celebration. And if you're like me, you will always wonder, "How in the world do they know they'll be getting THOSE designs?" I've always been amazed at how they can pack those 500 gram finale fireworks so that we'll see a giant chrysanthemum or a star or whatever.

Well, these guys get into the science of it all, and it's quite fascinating.
