After the DeKalb Police Department received a call about a barnyard goose on the loose, officers sprang into action to rescue the lost bird.

Petting Zoo Mayhem

As the animal-loving mom of two animal-obsessed young daughters, I am well versed in the shenanigans that can go down at a petting zoo.

From goats trampling kids (without truly hurting the children) to get treats, to the inappropriate "hugging" of two animals, I've seen plenty of things at a petting zoo that have made me giggle, but....I have never seen an animal escape to go on an adventure before!

Petting Zoo Fowl in DeKalb, Illinois

Do you ever have days when you just need to see something cute to brighten your mood? Today is one of those days for me, and this post from the DeKalb Police Department certainly did the job!

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025 the DeKalb Police Department received a call about a barnyard goose from a mobile petting zoo who had escaped for a little jaunt around town.

While this goose didn't pose any real danger for residents, the bird needed to be caught, primarily for its own safety, and DeKalb Police Detective Long and Officer Burdick flew into action. (See what I did there? Lol!)

This poor goose may look terrified in the picture, but thankfully, he is back home safe where he belongs with a cool story to share with his barnyard friends.

As for his heroic rescue, here's the body cam footage...

Thank goodness neither of those officers were scared of birds! Job very well done, Detective Long and Officer Burdick!

Do you think this goose has been retired from petting zoo duty now? He is a flight risk after all. (Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I'm done now.)
