In a statement, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) revealed the recall of of nearly three tons of ready-to-eat jerky products.

Nearly Three Tons of Beef & Bacon Jerky Recalled

The recall, which includes both beef jerky and bacon jerky products has been issued after it was discovered that the products were produced without a federal inspection.

No Federal Inspection

The oversight of federal inspection falls on not one but two separate owners of Hickory Hollow Jerky out of Eufaula, Alabama, as the company changed ownership on June 11, 2024, and the impacted products were manufactured between January 19, 2024 and August 21, 2024.

Products Marked with Inspection Seal Despite No Actual Inspections

According to the USDA, it was discovered that Hickory Hollow Jerky continued to produce the jerky products, labeling them with a USDA mark of inspection despite having voluntarily halted participation in FSIS-inspections. The products were made in a number of flavors including Jamaican Jerk, Sweet Heat BBQ, Macho Nacho, and more.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. NO. 34550” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Products Shipped and Sold in Several Southern States + Online

The products were shipped and sold at retailers in several Southern states, as well as through online retail outlets.

No Illness or Adverse Reactions Reported

The USDA says that there have been no confirmed reports of illness or other adverse reactions from consuming these products. However, they do say that consumers concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare professional.
