Evansville Animal Control Shares How to Keep Your Pets Safe During Severe Weather
If you have pets and live in Indiana and Kentucky, you need to be just a prepared for your pets as you are for the rest of the family in cases of severe weather. Here's how!
Weather in the Tristate Can Be Unpredictable
The weather can be unpredictable, and that includes the threat of severe, and sometimes extremely dangerous weather. If you have spent any time at all in the Tristate you know the importance of a good emergency preparedness plan.
Don't Forget Your Pets When Making Pre-Storm Preparations
If you have pets, you need to be sure that you include preparations for your pets too, and our friends at Evansville Animal Care and Control shared some helpful information to make sure you're ready when severe weather strikes.

Bring Your Pets Indoors - Never Leave Them Out in Inclimate Weather
Before storms arrive, it's a good idea to make sure you bring your pets indoors. Weather can turn quickly. In the post to social media, it's advised that any pets that may be prone to hiding should be secured in advance with a leash or in a carrier or crate. This will ensure that they are safe and secure, and in the event you need to evacuate, you don't have to try to find a hiding pet.
Be Prepared with a Three Day Supply of Food and Water for Each Pet
Evansville Animal Care and Control also recommends having a three day supply of food and water for each of your animals. One gallon of water per pet per day is a good rule of thumb.
Create a "Grab-and-Go" Bag for Your Pets
You should also have a "grab-and-go" emergency kit for your pet that includes vaccination records, any medications your pet needs, a leash, and a favorite toy (or blanket).
Never Just Turn Your Pet Loose
They say you should never, under any circumstances "set pets loose." In the event that your pet accidentaly does get loose, Evansville Animal Care and Control also recommends that you post a photo and description of your lost pet to the Evansville Lost Pets 2.0 Facebook page.
